Centranthus (sen-tranth-us) Valerian, Valerian Family (Valerianaceae). Centranthus is a small genus of perennials native in the Mediterranean region. Plant in full sun and ordinary well-drained soil.

C. ruber (roo-ber); Red Valerian, Jupiter’s Beard Valerian. A bushy, 2 to 3 feet high plant, with 3 to 4 inches long, light gray, green leaves. Dense cluster of fragrant, funnel-shaped, crimson flowers bloom is June and July.
