Baptisia DECADENCE® Series (False Indigo) are ideal for home gardens

Dec 21, 2014

Baptisia DECADENCE® Series (False Indigo), available from Proven Winners® this spring, are a tamed down and much more suitable Baptisia for home gardens. Over a decade of work by Hans Hansen, head hybridizer of Walters Gardens, has produced a series of Baptisia with unique colors and a short, compact habit. Varieties of this series are selected for their desirable flower colors and shorter, more compact habit. All varieties produced from cuttings, resulting in more uniform finished plants.

  • EXPOSURE: Full sun to light shade
  • BLOOMS: Late Spring to Early Summer
  • HEIGHT: 2.5 to 3 feet
  • SPACE: 2 to 3 feet
  • ZONE: 4-9

Hybridized and selected for their shorter, more compact habit and unique flower colors, DECADENCE® Baptisias are scaled to fit easily into today’s home gardens. Their showy spring blooms add colorful flair followed by decorative seed pods which add interest to the fall garden. Baptisia is an ancient perennial that was first used by Native Americans to make indigo dyes. It can be found growing naturally in meadows, tolerating heat and drought with ease and resisting deer browsing too. Be sure to choose a permanent location when planting Baptisia since mature plants resent being disturbed.
