Product Description
Eryngium p. 'Blue Glitter' (30)ct Flat
Barrenwort, Longspur Epimedium, ‘Lilac Fairy’.
Looking for a perennial that will grow in that hot, sun-baked spot in your landscape? Sea Holly is just the plant! It thrives in that type of climate, and even grows in high-salt soils too (think seaside).
Sea Holly is adored by florists and gardeners alike for its unique and long lasting, blue, spiny flowers which add interesting color and texture to bouquets or the garden. They are produced on intensely silver-blue stems and stand high above the basal rosette of blue-green, deeply toothed, smooth textured leaves.
'Blue Glitter' is an improvement over older varieties because it matures quickly, produces a greater number of flowers, and has a more intense blue flower color. It does not require vernalization to bloom, which is an advantage to gardeners in southern zones.
This species of Eryngium is one of the hardiest and it has proven to be a reliable, long-lived perennial. Attracts butterflies.

Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' is a striking and unique perennial that adds a touch of metallic shimmer and architectural form to the garden. It is commonly called sea holly, but do not let that fool you—it thrives in dry, sunny conditions, not by the sea! Here is a breakdown of its key features:
Appearance:
- Intense Blue Flowers: 'Blue Glitter' produces an abundance of small, thistle-like flowers in a captivating shade of silvery-blue. The blooms are tightly packed into egg-shaped heads, creating a cone-like effect.
- Spiny Bracts: Each flower head is surrounded by spiny, silvery-blue bracts that add to its textural appeal and shimmer in the sunlight.
- Silver-Blue Stems: The stems themselves are a beautiful silver-blue color, adding to the overall metallic effect of the plant.
- Basal Foliage: 'Blue Glitter' forms a basal rosette of deeply toothed, blue-green leaves that provide a lovely contrast to the spiky flower heads.
Growing Conditions:
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily). The more sun it gets, the more intense the blue color will be.
- Soil: Thrives in dry, sandy, well-drained soil. It is tolerant of poor soil conditions and dislikes overly fertile or moist soils.
- Hardiness Zones: Suitable for USDA hardiness zones 4-9.
Care:
- Low Maintenance: 'Blue Glitter' is a low-maintenance plant.
- Drought Tolerant: Once established, it is very drought tolerant.
- Deadheading: Deadheading is not necessary for continuous bloom but can be done to maintain a tidy appearance.
- Avoid Overwatering and Overfertilizing: Too much water or fertilizer can make the plant floppy and less vigorous.
Uses:
- Borders and Beds: Adds a unique vertical element and textural contrast to borders and beds.
- Cottage Gardens: Fits well in cottage gardens, adding a touch of wildness and charm.
- Gravel Gardens: Its drought tolerance makes it ideal for gravel gardens and xeriscaping.
- Naturalistic Plantings: Can be incorporated into naturalistic plantings for a meadow-like effect.
- Cut Flowers: The flowers are excellent for cutting and last a long time in fresh or dried arrangements.
Additional Information:
- Attracts Pollinators: The flowers attract bees and butterflies.
- Deer and Rabbit Resistant: Deer and rabbits tend to avoid Eryngium.
- Long Bloom Time: 'Blue Glitter' has a long bloom time, typically from mid-summer to early fall.
- Award Winner: It is a recipient of the prestigious Fleuroselect Gold Medal, recognizing its outstanding qualities as an ornamental plant.
If you are looking for a unique, low-maintenance, and drought-tolerant perennial that adds a touch of shimmer and architectural interest to your garden, Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' is an excellent choice!

Other Details
The most important part of the plant is its root system. Healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant plant. The type of plug container used is based on the specific needs of the plants. Perennials offered as bare root traditionally perform better when planted as bare root.Planted in a specialized mix, potted plants have well established root systems. Top growth stage will vary depending on the current life cycle and time of year when shipped. In Winter and early Spring dormant plants may be shipped. Dormant plants may be planted right away, even before the last frost date.
Most bare root varieties are field grown for at least one season, though Hemerocallis and Hosta are grown for two seasons. The bulk of the soil is removed during the harvesting process and the tops of most varieties are trimmed back to the crown. They are graded, packed in shredded aspen or sphagnum moss and stored in freezers until ready to be shipped.

Plant information and care is provided in the Overview section, Plant Genus Page and general information is provided in the Planting Care & Guides. Additional questions can be asked on each Plant page.
Plant Spacing: Using the maximum mature spread or width of a plant to guide spacing, ensures space to grow to full size. To fill an area sooner, plant them closer together. Just remember, future thinning or transplanting may be needed.
Water: Keep a close eye on newly planted perennials, especially throughout the first growing year. Most early plant loss is due to too much or too little water!
