Gentians tend to grow best in cooler zones with mild summers. It prefers full sun to part shade and should be protected from the afternoon sun in regions with hot, humid summers. Plant it in well-drained, sandy loam to loam soil with average moisture. If the soil stays wet, especially in winter, the plant may rot.
