Product Description
Hemerocallis 'Fearfully and Wonderfully Made' (25) Bare Root Plants Proven Winners® RAINBOW RHYTHM® Collection
Common Name: Daylily
A daylily that truly is wonderfully made! If you have loved mid-size, fancy daylilies like 'Lake of Fire', then 'Fearfully and Wonderfully Made' is the next variety to add to your garden. The 5½" flowers look bigger than their measured size with wide petals and piecrust edges. Coral pink blooms have rich cranberry red eyes. The cranberry red continues in the margins, where it is trimmed with a yellow edge. Well-branched scapes with lots of buds lead to excellent rebloom.
Daylilies can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot including: polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone).
- Midseason Bloomer.
- Fragrant flowers.
- Dormant foliage.
- Tetraploid
Daylilies are some of the easiest perennials to grow and are a good choice for any gardener, from the beginner to the professional. These are tough, adaptable plants that will grow in any soil, from normal to slightly wet to dry. Older varieties are able to bloom if planted in partial shade, but most of the newer introductions need full sun for best performance. Likewise, older varieties tend to spread more rapidly than the newer hybrids.
Plants should be deadheaded for cosmetic purposes, but in most cases this will not extend the bloom time.

Hemerocallis 'Fearfully and Wonderfully Made' is a beautiful and aptly named daylily cultivar. It is a popular choice for gardeners due to its striking blooms, reblooming habit, and overall hardiness. Here is a breakdown of its key features:
Appearance:
- Color: The flowers showcase a captivating blend of coral pink petals with rich cranberry red eyes and edges. The cranberry red extends to the margins, where it is delicately trimmed with a creamy yellow edge, adding a touch of elegance and contrast. The throat of the flower is typically a greenish-yellow, providing a subtle yet noticeable accent.
- Flower Form: Large, 5.5-inch flowers with wide petals and a distinctive piecrust edge. The petals have a slightly recurved shape, giving the bloom a more open and welcoming appearance. The piecrust edges add a touch of whimsy and texture, making each flower a visual delight.
- Size: The flowers are quite large, measuring about 5.5 inches (14 cm) in diameter. This makes them a prominent feature in the garden, easily catching the eye and adding a splash of color.
- Height: Typically grows to a height of 26 inches (66 cm). This is a good mid-border height, allowing the flowers to be seen without overshadowing other plants. The stems are sturdy and well-branched, ensuring that the blooms are displayed prominently.
Growing Information:
- Bloom Time: Midseason bloomer with a reblooming period in late summer to early fall. This extended bloom time means you can enjoy the vibrant flowers for a longer period, often several weeks in total. The rebloom is usually not as profuse as the initial bloom, but it still provides a welcome burst of color later in the season.
- Sunlight: Prefers full sun (at least 6 hours per day) but can tolerate some light shade. Full sun will encourage the most profuse blooming, but in very hot climates, some afternoon shade may be beneficial.
- Soil: Adaptable to various soil types but performs best in well-drained soil with average moisture. Daylilies are relatively low-maintenance plants, but they will thrive in soil that is rich in organic matter and drains well.
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid overwatering. Daylilies are drought-tolerant once established, but they will appreciate regular watering during hot, dry weather.
- Hardiness: Hardy in USDA zones 3-9, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. This means that it can withstand a wide range of temperatures and growing conditions.
Other Notable Features:
- Fragrance: Many gardeners report that 'Fearfully and Wonderfully Made' has a noticeable fragrance, adding another layer of sensory enjoyment to the garden.
- Reblooming: This daylily is known for its reliable reblooming, providing a second flush of flowers later in the season. This extends the bloom time and ensures that your garden remains colorful for longer.
- Vigorous Growth: It is a vigorous grower with well-branched scapes, leading to abundant blooms and a robust overall appearance.
Uses in the Garden:
- Middle of the Border: Its height makes it a good choice for the middle of the border, where it can provide a splash of color and interest.
- Containers: It can also be grown in containers, making it a good choice for small gardens or patios.
- Mass Plantings: Creates a stunning display when planted in groups, where the vibrant flowers can create a bold statement.
Additional Tips:
- Deadhead spent flowers to encourage reblooming and maintain a tidy appearance. This will also prevent the plant from self-seeding, which can lead to unwanted seedlings.
- Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigor. This will also help to prevent the plant from becoming overcrowded and less productive.
Other Details
The most important part of the plant is its root system. Healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant plant. The type of plug container used is based on the specific needs of the plants. Perennials offered as bare root traditionally perform better when planted as bare root.Planted in a specialized mix, potted plants have well established root systems. Top growth stage will vary depending on the current life cycle and time of year when shipped. In Winter and early Spring dormant plants may be shipped. Dormant plants may be planted right away, even before the last frost date.
Most bare root varieties are field grown for at least one season, though Hemerocallis and Hosta are grown for two seasons. The bulk of the soil is removed during the harvesting process and the tops of most varieties are trimmed back to the crown. They are graded, packed in shredded aspen or sphagnum moss and stored in freezers until ready to be shipped.

Plant information and care is provided in the Overview section, Plant Genus Page and general information is provided in the Planting Care & Guides. Additional questions can be asked on each Plant page.
Plant Spacing: Using the maximum mature spread or width of a plant to guide spacing, ensures space to grow to full size. To fill an area sooner, plant them closer together. Just remember, future thinning or transplanting may be needed.
Water: Keep a close eye on newly planted perennials, especially throughout the first growing year. Most early plant loss is due to too much or too little water!
