Nepeta faassenii 'Walker's Low'
a/k/a Catmint and Catnip
Zones 3 to 8. Full Sun or part shade in the south.
Up to 30 inches tall (if staked) and 3 feet wide. Arching upright habit.
The cultivar name is somewhat misleading,
the plant is named for its garden of origin, not its growth habit.
2007 Perennial Plant of the Year.
Soft lavender-blue flowers will start to bloom early summer in the south and mid-summer for northern climates. Blooms for long periods, especially if plants are sheared after bloom. Gray-green, aromatic foliage becomes very fragrant when the stems are broken. Related to true catnip (N. cataria), Nepetalactone is not potent enough in this variety to be a strong attraction for cats, but fragrant enough for potpourri.
