Fragrant, pink and white stripe flowers atop a dense carpet of needle-like foliage. Colorful and compact, creeping Phlox creates a thick mat of evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage. Some of the foliage remains green throughout the winter in most zones. Spring flowers attract butterflies. Cold-hardy to zone 3, it does benefits with protection from winterburn.
Creeping phlox is a versatile, easy to grow groundcover for full sun. Gritty, neutral soils are prefered and good drainage is essential. It's a good idea to shear this plant back and clean up any dead foliage in early summer, just after it's finished blooming. This will produce denser foliage and will encourage it to rebloom. Divisions can be made every few years in summer.
Creeping phlox is a low-growing species which forms a carpet-like mat no taller than 6". This popular little perennial is best utilized in rocky areas, on slopes, rock gardens, along paths, at foundations, hillsides, and at the edge of beds or low walls (for cascading effect).
Other Details
The most important part of the plant is its root system. Healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant plant. The type of plug container used is based on the specific needs of the plants. Perennials offered as bare root traditionally perform better when planted as bare root.Planted in a specialized mix, potted plants have well established root systems. Top growth stage will vary depending on the current life cycle and time of year when shipped. In Winter and early Spring dormant plants may be shipped. Dormant plants may be planted right away, even before the last frost date.
Most bare root varieties are field grown for at least one season, though Hemerocallis and Hosta are grown for two seasons. The bulk of the soil is removed during the harvesting process and the tops of most varieties are trimmed back to the crown. They are graded, packed in shredded aspen or sphagnum moss and stored in freezers until ready to be shipped.
See our Container Sizes and Bare Root Perennials pages for more information.
Plant information and care is provided in the Overview section, Plant Genus Page and general information is provided in the Planting Care & Guides. Additional questions can be asked on each Plant page.
Plant Spacing: Using the maximum mature spread or width of a plant to guide spacing, ensures space to grow to full size. To fill an area sooner, plant them closer together. Just remember, future thinning or transplanting may be needed.
Water: Keep a close eye on newly planted perennials, especially throughout the first growing year. Most early plant loss is due to too much or too little water!

Candy Stripes Phlox
The plants arrived safely and in good condition. They have been in the ground less than two weeks but seem to be doing well.

Candy stripe phlox
Fabulous service! I ordered 25 plants and they were delivered within a week...and that was during the corona virus. Never expected such a speedy delivery. They went in the ground the next day and today ( 3 days after planting) they are perky and already putting out new growth! I am looking forward to seeing a flow of pink and white striped blossoms in my garden. So pleased!

Very pleased
The phlox arrived well packaged and were very healthy. I ordered 48 of these last year and they arrived in great condition too. I lost about 8 of them by this spring, but I ordered and planted them too late in the year so I blame myself. I just ordered 24 more to complete the flower bed and replace the 8 lost. They look great, I planted earlier, and expect them to all do well.
