Saponaria (sap-on-nay-ree-uh), Soapwort; Caryophyllaceae Family. Annuals and perennials from the Old World, in many colors and sizes, Caryophyllaceae last very well when cut. The plants are showy, easily grown and effective in the border and rock garden. They prefer full sun and a porous garden soil.
Saponaria ocymoides (oh-sim-moy-deez) creeping perennial 5 to 8 inches tall, with flowers in shades of pink and rose in loose clusters, especially suited to cascading over rocks.
